Strategies to stay positive when you are down
We all experience stress at times and maybe even anxiety in current times and should think about how we can stay positive when we are down. Staying positive is very important and you may want to practise mindfulness in your daily routine.
Here are some ideas to change your energy into a positive one when you feel down:
1. Share your feelings
Don’t cut yourself off from others when you feel down. Stay connected with like minded people. If this means finding new friends and reconnecting with others be proactive and seek connections. Build new networks with like minded people and stay in touch regularly. Listen to others and share your own thoughts and feelings. Plan outings together which include activities that are joyful or just catch up over coffee. This will boost your well-being when you are surrounded by like minded people and experiencing fun times.
2. Process your emotions
We all know that keeping emotions inside is not healthy for our mind and body. Instead of bottling those feelings up, process your emotions by becoming aware of your thoughts and feelings. Keep your perspective by asking yourself questions about your reality and seek creative solutions to overcome negative thinking. Challenge yourself in finding solutions on how to raise your energy and challenging and disrupting your negative thought patterns.
3. Look at your habits
What are you doing on a daily basis to raise your positive emotions? Are you grateful for the things you have in life? Not only the material things you accumulated in life, but the nature and people around you? When you notice those things that make you happy in life your attitude will change and you will enjoy positive emotions. One way to increase your gratitude is by acting with kindness and compassion for others. Take time out to do things you love doing! When you increase your positive emotions your stress levels will decrease.
4. Look at what you value in life
Explore what you value most in life and ask yourself how you live in accordance with them. Find new ways to live up to those values. When you live in accordance with your values you will respond to situations and events differently.
5. Practice self love and mindfulness
We should always set ourselves as the highest priority so we can give and receive love with others. Be kind to yourself and take some time out to do things you like to do.
Be mindful by taking note of your own experience without being overwhelmed by it. Becoming aware of what you can do to stay in a positive frame of mind is an essential component of self-compassion. It allows you to maintain perspective without judgement and helps you keep a healthy balance between the things that go right in life and the things that go wrong.
One example to look at is your work life balance. Look at all aspects in your life and what you can do to be more satisfied in the different areas of your life. Make more time for those areas that you previously neglected. Take some time to wind down. Include some relaxing activities in your life, such as being active in nature or meditate.
6. Maintain a healthy diet and exercise
When you lead a healthy life by eating nourishing food and exercise regularly your whole body and mind feels more balanced. It may be a bit difficult to start off when changing your eating habits or becoming motivated to exercise. 7. Get into quality sleep routines
Not having enough quality sleep will make it harder for you to maintain a healthy body and mind.
