Hypnotherapy & EMDR
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy can be described as a form of psychotherapy where the hypnotherapist guides you in hypnosis to access your subconscious mind and resolves unwanted issues such as addictions, releasing negative emotions, coping with anxiety or stress or reprogramming your belief system and breaking unwanted habits. We combine Hypnotherapy with effective NLP, EMDR (optional) and Counselling strategies to support positive and desired changes on the subconscious and conscious level.
When you are in hypnosis your mind will be in a heightened state of learning and you are more susceptible to the positive suggestions, which are in alignment with your desired outcomes. Once your subconscious mind accepts the suggestions it will unleash the inner resources to manifest the desired changes in your conscious actions, thoughts and behaviours. The goal of the hypnotherapy is to harmonise your subconscious and conscious mind so you have greater control over your behaviour and emotions in your daily life.
Hypnotherapy allows your conscious mind to quieten and allows access to your subconscious mind to focus on the issue you want to have solved. To reach your subconscious mind the therapist will slowly relax you with calming messages into a dream like state. Once you are in the hypnotic trance you will be able to face your issues objectively and accept the positive and gentle suggestions the therapist will give you so you can overcome your issues.
During hypnosis you will not be unconscious as you hear the therapists voice. It is more like a deep state of relaxation, similar to the feeling you have before you drift off to sleep.

What Can You Expect from a Hypnotherapy session?
Before we start with a hypnotherapy session, we will talk about the issues you would like to have addressed. Then we will meet for a session personally or over the internet (Zoom), which usually lasts for 1.5 to 2 hours. We will talk about the issues in more detail and what you would like to achieve. For the hypnosis to work, you will need to have determination and a willingness to work with us to achieve a better version of your current self.
Once we have talked about the issues, we will explain the hypnosis process and will begin by relaxing your mind and body. Once you are in hypnotic trance, we will guide you to imagine relaxing images to make your mind receptive to the change. When you are relaxed, we will speak to your subconscious mind and make positive suggestions to help you change.
Don’t worry, we will not make you do things involuntarily as you may have seen with stage hypnotists. You will be completely aware of what we are saying and you will feel very safe and secure. At the end of the session, we will gently guide you out of the hypnotic state.
As most issues have other underlying deeper issues, several sessions are usually recommended. The minimum program recommended is 4 sessions, which are conducted on a weekly basis.
EMDR: A Gold Standard Treatment for Trauma and PTSD
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is recognised as one of the gold standard treatments for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Extensive research has demonstrated its effectiveness in alleviating the distress associated with traumatic memories, making it a highly recommended therapy for individuals grappling with past trauma, ongoing stressors, and more recent traumatic events.
Beyond its primary application for PTSD, EMDR has also shown efficacy in addressing various other mental health concerns, including:
• Phobias
• Osessive Compulsive Disorders
• Addictions and Eating disorders
• Depression
• Panic Disorder
• Performance Anxiety
• Chronic Pain Management
• Grief and Loss

Eye Movement Desensitisation
Reprocessing (EMDR)
How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR leverages the brain’s natural memory processing mechanisms, similar to those active during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which is crucial for deep, restorative sleep. During REM sleep, the brain processes daily experiences, consolidating short-term memories into long-term storage. However, traumatic memories can sometimes be improperly processed or stored, leading to distressing symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, and emotional disturbances triggered by present-day reminders.
Through the EMDR process, you will engage with short blocks of traumatic memories in a controlled, supportive environment. The therapy employs guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation—such as auditory cues or tactile sensations—to facilitate this memory processing. By doing so, EMDR allows you to process memories in manageable segments, reducing the risk of overwhelm.
The Benefits of EMDR
Through EMDR, you will not forget the traumatic experiences; instead, you will learn to integrate these memories into your life narratives without being overwhelmed by emotional distress. This therapy fosters resilience, enabling you to accept the past while moving forward with a renewed sense of strength and stability.
It is crucial that you have adequate social support and coping resources in place before beginning EMDR. We are assisting you with stabilisation strategies including hypnosis and other therapies as we are committed to ensure that you are well prepared and resourced throughout the therapy process, minimising any risk of re-traumatisation and promoting a healing environment.
Important Note: Outcomes can vary widely based on individual circumstances, the severity of issues, and the client-therapist relationship. Ongoing support and your active participation in therapy are crucial for achieving the best results.
The EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy is structured and unfolds over several phases:
History & Treatment Planning
We will discuss your history and develop a treatment plan with attention to traumatic events to reprocess. We also assess your internal and external resources that we can draw on during the reprocessing phase.
Preparation: Before diving into EMDR, we prioritise establishing a foundation of trust and safety. We will explain to you the EMDR therapy process and we can address expectations. You will be able to voice any concerns and raise questions. We will also prepare you with specific techniques to cope with emotional disturbance that may arise. The Initial sessions focus on relaxation techniques, hypnosis, and other therapeutic strategies to ensure you feel secure.
Assessment: You will identify the event to reprocess including any images, beliefs, feelings, and sensations. We also establish initial measures as baselines before reprocessing so we can see how you go in the process over time.
Desensitisation: During this core phase, you concentrate on one aspect of the traumatic memory while simultaneously following the therapist’s fingers or engaging in other forms of bilateral stimulation. This dual focus helps facilitate the reprocessing of the memory.
Installation: Positive beliefs and coping strategies are reinforced to replace negative thought patterns associated with the trauma.
Body Scan: You are guided to identify any residual physical sensations related to the memory, allowing for further processing.
Closure: Each session concludes by assisting you to return to a state of calm in the present moment whether the reprocessing is complete or not.
Reevaluation: At the beginning of each new session, we will discuss recently processed memories to ensure that distress is still low and positive cognition is strong. Future targets and directions for continued treatment are determined.
Testimonial
“For anyone considering meeting with Liani I can wholeheartedly recommend her. She has a warm presence and a beautiful energy and is a very kind, intuitive and a caring person. Liani explained everything to me about the session and put me at ease straight away. We did two sessions on changing a limiting belief and also releasing some emotions that held me back of being more confident about my business. She helped me immensely on releasing the negative blocks and safely changed my negative way of thinking. I now feel more confident about my abilities and people around me have noticed that too.
She significantly helped me to feel more confident about myself. Looking forward to the next session.
Felt so relaxed, lighter, and at peace.
Thank you Liani!”
