Self help tips for Insomnia sufferers
Here are simple strategies that I suggest to my clients who suffer from sleeping disorders.
Create a routine at night. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
Create comfortable atmosphere in your bedroom. Keep your bedroom tidy. A tidy environment will make you feel comfortable to be in. Ensure your bed, blanket and pillows are comfortable. Keep your room temperature a bit cooler and have curtains that can block out the light.
Exercise regularly. Exercise helps to reduce stress and moving your body will make you physically tired. However, try not to exercise too close to your bedtime.
Reduce alcohol, caffeine and nicotine intake. Replace tea and coffee with herbal teas close to bedtime.
Keep your meals light in the evening. Eat lightly in the evening. Heavy meals make it more difficult for your body to relax during digestion. Some foods such as carbohydrates and fatty foods can cause sleeping problems. Monitor the food you eat and adjust accordingly.
Find some time to relax. Allow yourself some time in the evening to have a warm bath or read a book. Or you may want to listen to soft meditation music for a little while before going to sleep.
Keep electronic devices out of the bedroom if you can. Studies have found electronic devices do affect sleep. Mobile phones emit blue light, which can influence your ability to fall asleep. Try to keep them out of the bedroom and stop using them an hour before bed.
Relax your thoughts about the things you need to do the next day. Sleep can be difficult if you are busy thinking about all the things you need to do the next day. Write yourself a list of the things you need to do the next day before you go to bed. You may also want to lay out the clothing you want to wear the next day so you don’t spend any thoughts on it when you try to sleep.
Self Hypnosis. I provide my clients with some steps to create their own self hypnosis process. If you find that the above strategies still do not give you the desired sleep join the Power in You Hypnotherapy Program – From Insomnia to a restful sleep
