Research Studies on the effect of Reiki Therapy for patients with Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Anxiety, Depression and Stress

Reiki is an energy based therapy that can assist your body’s natural ability to heal itself. The Reiki energy can be channelled either by hand or by distance healing, which produces similar results.

Those who never experienced Reiki therapy before may ask about any evidence of its effectiveness. Today I want to share some published research studies in the Natural Therapy Pages that demonstrate how Reiki can assist in the management and treatment of pain, anxiety, stress and many other conditions that affect your mind, body and emotions.

There have been numerous studies conducted that have shown that Reiki can assist to rebalance the biofield at the deepest vibrations level and can also assist to eliminate any root causes of disease.

Research study involving treating patients with Fibromyalgia

Reiki has helped address deep rooted issues of patients that suffer from Fibromyalgia and helped them to recuperate and return to their normal lives.

A study involving 50 patients was conducted by a research university in Turkey. The study, titled "Evaluation of the Impacts of Reiki Touch Therapy on Patients Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia Who Are Followed in the Pain Clinic" was published in January 2022, which assigned 25 patients to the experimental group and the other half to the control group.

Based on the information collected from the participants, to assess their pain and anxiety levels, those who received Reiki reported significantly less pain in the second and fourth weeks than those who did not. Researchers also noticed an improvement in their physical health, energy levels and mental wellbeing.

Reiki trials in the treatment of cancer patients' anxiety and pain

Researchers at a university hospital in Italy, conducted a three-year study on the effects of Reiki on pain and anxiety levels, as well as overall wellness, in cancer patients.

The study, titled "The Effects of Reiki Therapy on Pain and Anxiety in Patients Attending a Day Oncology and Infusion Services Unit", was published on 13 October 2011. It included 118 cancer patients in various stages who were undergoing chemotherapy. Those who received four Reiki treatments had a significantly decreased level of anxiety. As a whole, all participants found their Reiki sessions to be helpful for pain relief, anxiety reduction, relaxation, sleep quality and overall well being.

Clinical trials and research on the long-term effects of Reiki on depression and stress

As the Natural Therapy Pages points out despite 50 years of research and many publications on depression: “there is no conclusive evidence to support the widely held belief that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and that antidepressants must be taken for the rest of our lives…. However, there is clear evidence that emotional and social stress can alter our biology and lead to clinical depression.” Dr Bruce Lipton also refers to our environment and our thoughts when it comes to mental illnesses in his lecture on the Biology of Beliefs ( I posted his lecture a while ago in this group).

Reiki has been shown to produce dramatic and long-lasting effects when used either alone or in conjunction with other types of therapy for depression and stress. (In my practice I often combine hypnosis and Reiki therapy to assist clients suffering from anxiety, depression and stress.)  The positive outcome of Reiki therapy was clearly demonstrated in Dr Adina Goldman Shore's 2002 study on the long-term effects of energy healing on psychological depression symptoms and self-perceived stress.

Fifty individuals who were ill were divided into three groups for the study: hands-on Reiki, distant Reiki, and a control group that received a placebo for distance Reiki. The study was conducted over six weeks, each participant got treatment from a certified Reiki practitioner for 60 to 90 minutes each week.

The data gathered at the end of the sixth week revealed that participants who got hands-on and remote Reiki treatments experienced significantly lower levels of stress, hopelessness and depressive symptoms than those in the control group. The subjects were retested a year after the experiment ended, and it was discovered that they had maintained the benefits of their treatment.

The above-mentioned studies are only a sample of many studies that have been conducted so far. You can find the full article here: https://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au/.../reiki...

Reiki has already been incorporated in some hospitals in Europe and the United States; and more and more people incorporate Reiki therapy in their lives to maintain their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

I also have seen evidence of the positive effect Reiki therapy in my own clients.

Paul C. gave me this beautiful testimonial:

“After a fall, I had shocking back pain which made any movement almost impossible. Bending, sitting down, getting back up, or lying down was almost impossible. I remember my second session with Liani (while I was sitting) I was dreading having to stand up. Surprisingly, I stood up with little pain. I inadvertently walked down a step, which would normally have been very painful. It took a second or two to realise what I had just done, with no pain. I don’t know how it worked, but after a third session, I was ok again. I’m sure I would have sold my house for pain relief at the time, but fortunately I found the right person to help me, and I still have my home. Liani, to me, you are a healing legend.”

I can highly recommend trying Reiki therapy if you suffer from mild or chronic health conditions.
