What is sovereignty and how important is it for your self-confidence?
Sovereign refers to the power or right that a nation/state or individual has to determine its own destiny, exercising its own will and to not be controlled by others. We all know that authorities have sovereignty, but we also do have sovereignty on a personal level. When it comes to our own personal sovereignty it refers to the intrinsic right of an individual to self-determination.
The right of sovereignty is not the same as being sovereign, which is when we demonstrate or express our thoughts and actions. When we are sovereign, we are independent and confident in forming and in following our own ideas, beliefs and attitudes regardless of any pressure in our society to conform.
When we give up our own sovereignty to something we are not truly believing in we give our power away. This may not be in our interest and can even hinder our development and growth in life.
If we do not form our own beliefs and trust our inner knowledge and stand up or do what we believe we tend to disengage and blame others that we perceive are manipulating us.
However, here is the point that is important. We are allowing this to happen and give our power away. We have a personal responsibility for our lives and are responsible for what we let happen to us in personal relationships, jobs and in many other areas of our lives. If we do not maintain our personal sovereignty and take on beliefs and values dictated to us by others we may start to feel victimised and start to blame the outer world for their short comings, but in fact we are the ones who give our power away.
Don’t let your beliefs and values be determined by others and take control over you.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO RECLAIM YOUR POWER?
You can empower yourself by forming your own beliefs and by trusting your inner truth or intuition. And then act on it and do what you know is right for you. Stay in your heart and in your mind and stay firm in what you know is true and right for you. Don’t let fear of the unknown or what you believe may happen in the future (if you don’t stay in your truth) take over. As Barbara Marciniak quotes in her book Path of Empowerment:
YOUR POWER ENDS WHERE YOUR FEAR BEGINS.
We all have the right and personal responsibility to own our beliefs, ideas, principles, and values and follow those to live the life we want to live. Reconnect to the power in you and reclaim the confidence in yourself and in your inner intuition. Stand in your truth despite what others may be telling you. Remember or search in yourself who you really are and what you want to be and not what others say you are or what they want you to be.
You are unique and powerful and all the knowledge you need is in you. You are the creator of your own life.
